Aloe-Drift Safaris is a small Tour Operating Company based in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, South Africa. Our objective is to conduct quality private tours and safaris. To achieve this, we are conveniently situated at the gateway to some of the most luxurious malaria free game parks and lodges which feature the Big Five. In addition to this, we are a stone’s throw from The Garden Route which is a prelude to Cape Town in the Western Cape and all its wonders.
Our focus is on providing tours for groups of 2-10 people to ensure a more personalized, quality tour for the discerning traveler. If none of our itineraries satisfy the needs of prospective clients, a customized tour can be designed to meet their requirements.
We conduct tours in fully air-conditioned vehicles and tours are guided by qualified (THETA) guides. Our guides are well traveled in the region and have vast amounts of knowledge of the regions in which we operate. Tours vary from affordable backpackers and 3-star B&B to luxury 5-star lodges. In all cases it is only the accommodation that varies - the service and the experience remains 5-star. We also do transfers for corporate and/or events groups from the Port Elizabeth airport to conference/events venues and hotels.
" I envy only the man who has not been to Africa for he has so much to look forward to." This anonymous 19th Century quote says so much in so few words..... now read on!
The Big Five viewed at close quarters on safari vehicles – Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Buffalo and Black Rhino. For a really close encounter, stop off at one of the animal sanctuaries and cuddle a cheetah or fondle the ear of an elephant.
Venture out to sea to experience Great White Sharks with only a wire meshed cage separating you from the ocean’s ultimate killing machine & whales that gaze back at you – Southern Right, Humpback and Brydes – no cuddling or fondling these fellows!!!!
Prefer to keep your feet dry! Land based whale watching may also be done at Hermanus, the whale watching capital of South Africa.
Cape Town - known to many South Africans as the Mother City – that bustling cosmopolitan centre nestled against the slopes of Table Mountain offers the tourist some of the most delectable restaurants, clubs and hotels.
Take a cable car ride to the top of the majestic Table Mountain with its vistas of the fairest Cape of all & Robben Island, the isolated rock that for 27 years held the Champion of South African democracy, Nelson Mandela, prisoner. After a ferry ride visit to this island, complete the day at the V&A Waterfront with its many shops, bars, sidewalk cafes and restaurants, a helicopter flip around the peninsula or a visit to the Two Oceans Aquarium.
The Cango Caves – take a walk in these caverns and be amazed by the grandeur of the formations that date back millions of years. In keeping with pre-history, Oudtshoorn also offers the opportunity of cage diving with crocodiles and riding/sitting on ostriches – both these creatures said to date back to prehistoric times.
Knysna - the crown jewel of the Southern Cape and Oyster Capital. Enjoy these delicacies together with a glass of bubbly at one of the fine restaurants or on a sundowner lagoon cruise.
Dinner can be enjoyed on the only paddle driven ferry in the Southern Hemisphere while you marvel at the beauty of this large estuary.
No visit to the Western & Southern Cape can be complete without a visit to one of the many Wine Estates that produce some of the finest wines & brandies in the world. Tasting may be done at these along with cellar tours which are concluded with a lunch to enjoy the wine of your selection. These estates dot the entire region from its western extremes to as far as Plettenberg Bay.
Plettenberg Bay is a seaside resort town and is not known as the millionaire’s playground of South Africa for nothing. As a result, it offers the finest accommodation – from hotels on the edge of the ocean to secluded 5-star tree top lodges. The beaches offer safe bathing and snow white sands.
In close proximity is the world’s highest commercial bungy jump of 160m off a 219m high bridge, tree top canopy zip-line tours, Monkey Land primate sanctuary, Birds of Eden – the largest free flying bird enclosure in the southern hemisphere and Elephant Sanctuaries where these orphaned and abused gentle giants may be fed, cuddled or ridden.
For the Golf enthusiast there is a host of courses to select from – many of them Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus or Ernie Els designed signature courses. Anyone of these can be played between Cape Town and Cape St. Francis near Port Elizabeth. There are also many fine courses to be played that cater for the higher handicap player.
The South African coastline offers some of the most exciting angling all year round. The annual pelagic migration from the west to east brings with it large shoals of predators such as the Albacore and Yellow Fin Tuna and exciting catches are made every year. We have in addition to these a large variety of bottom feeders which also provide great sport.
The Blood Sport enthusiast will find the Eastern Cape well suited to his needs. Hunting is offered by many privately owned Hunting Lodges with a large variety of antelope and larger game on offer. Trophy Mounting and Taxidermy is also provided. Professional Hunters and trackers are employed in all cases.
